Our History

The Tedeschi family has been in the Napa Valley for several generations. Eugene Tedeschi planted the first grapes on their Calistoga property in the 1960s. Today, Emil Tedeschi produces hand-crafted wines in the tradition of his family's winemaking heritage.

In 1919 the first generation of the Tedeschi family emigrated from Italy to Providence, Rhode Island. Months after, they moved to California where they started their first company, assisting with the lettering and pin striping for the Wells Fargo stagecoaches. Later that same year, the family moved to Calistoga, a small town in the northern Napa Valley.

Eugene Tedeschi purchased our home and winery's current estate in the 1950s, here in Calistoga. When he purchased it, there were acres of various fruit trees, including apples and persimmons. As proper steward and to savor the beauty, he planted his grapevines between the trees, with rows of grapes intertwining with the diverse fruit trees. He planted many varieties of grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah.

Eugene's son Emil moved to Hawaii in 1974 to co-found a new vineyard and winery, Tedeschi Vineyards in Maui, which has become one of the most famous wineries in Hawaii. 

Emil Tedeschi moved his family back to the Napa Valley in 1991 to accomplish his dream of redeveloping his father’s orchards in Calistoga and starting up his own small, family operated winery. Today, the dream has been realized. 

Emil, along with his two sons, Emilio & Mario and his daughter Elaine, continue their commitment to handcrafting award winning, old-world style wines that are true to their terroir, and enjoyed by friends and family, alike.
